She graduated from Tyrone High School in 1955 and then traveled to Quincy, WA for the summer and worked at a spud farm with her brother, Frank. She was a waitress at a soda fountain as well as a clerk at the local shoe store. During her high school years, she worked various jobs. She grew up in and around the town of Tyrone, PA. Betty was born to John and Gertrude Travis in Worth Township, PA. On January 13th, 2023, Betty Emma Boyd, a beloved spouse and mother of three, went to be with the Lord after a long hard battle with pancreatic cancer.
