Now, if you already carry a Glock 17 and like it, I wouldn’t argue that you should drop your current EDC and swap it for a G19X. Grip length, on the other hand, is where fractions of an inch can make or break a gun for daily carry. Carrying in a seated position is one of those rare exceptions, and the Glock 19X handled that quite well. I rarely have a need to consider the length of my barrel or slide as the limiting factor in concealing a firearm for daily carry. However, that balance comes at what I would consider a significant cost in added grip length. The balance is better in general over either the Glock 17 or Glock 19 variants. While those two rounds are not unappreciated, the reduced slide length from the Glock 17 is a more noted improvement when carrying the firearm in a vehicle. It also adds a Glock 17 capacity of 17 rounds, tossing another two rounds into your carry gun over the Glock 19. The G19X pulls some of the weight of the gun further back into the base of your hand and more in line with your thumb – or pollex if you are trying to impress your friends for no particularly good reason. While this is not my new carry gun, I do get the appeal. But it doesn’t quite carry like any other Glock I’ve ever owned. But I will also add that I did at least confirm some of my suspicions after testing this gun for the last two months – It shoots like a Glock. I will spare those inclined to speed read by saying this is not my new carry gun. Fortunately, I’m in the privileged position to receive test guns these days, so I jumped on the chance to take a used G19X out for a spin when one came along. Still, I was intrigued by the G19X, but I never really felt compelled to make the leap into actually buying one of these crossovers. Frankly, Glock and its many generations of “perfection” have done a fair bit of work filling that market with a wide variety of pistol sizes and calibers. I’ve personally had my eye on the Glock 19X since it was launched into what was already a pretty saturated semi-auto pistol market. With the extended magazine, the difference is negligible. As a result, you have a pistol that is just nearly 2 inches longer than it is tall. For me, this pistol is a keeper.Īdded: Once I have a thousand rounds through the Masada I will most likely add a red dot and a light. The Glock 19X is basically a centaur-like crossbreed that pairs a Glock 17 grip with a Glock 19 slide and barrel. It appears the Masada will do this just fine. I would consider any 9mm, including the Masada, as untested until it has about 1,000 rounds through it with no failures. I also think that one would be well armed with the Masada and I particularly like the 17 round factory mags. I am happy with mine after this first outing, and I look forward to putting lots of rounds down range over the next year. So, I think the Masada is an excellent 9mm pistol at a lessor price point of many other good 9mm pistols. I found the trigger to be good, and I was quite happy with the trigger for both slow fire and rapid fire. With a bit of practice I think this will be no problem at all. I found that putting the Masada front sight white dot exactly on the bullseye as opposed to just below the bullseye worked quite well. I had a bit of a learning curve with the combat sights as opposed to the typical sights. I own many 9mm pistols and my opinion is the Masada is most similar to my Glock. Recoil and overall gun feel was much like my Glock 19 gen five. For me the Masada fired less than three inches to the left which is very common on most pistols for me. All rounds were fired without any type of failure. I fired a total of 100 rounds divided equally between Winchester 124 gr. Wind was about 10 mph out of the North and temperature was approximately 55 degrees. I found that the grip that came on the pistol fit my hand very well, and I found that the pistol pointed well for me. I took a small amount of time to hold and dry-fire the pistol a few times. I found no flaws or problems with the Masada. I then inspected, then lubed the Masada with Mobile 1, and reassembled. I picked up my new Masada today, brought it home, field stripped the Masada and removed any factory oil.
